While not quite a farm around here, we do keep dogs, a cat, chickens, ducks, turkeys and fish around here. Might even have
a pig soon! We also are a foster home for rescued English Mastiffs so occasionally we have a visitor for awhile
too!
Tycho was Steph's first rescued English Mastiff before she and Marc got married. He lived a happy long life with
us and died when he was 11 1/2 years old. He is now buried in our pet cemetery. Cleo was a runt, small for an English
Mastiff and going blind. But she has the sweetest personality of all our dogs and very well mannered. She too has
passed away. Laika was breed to be a show dog, but got in trouble with a judge, so we adopted him. He is a beautiful
dog, lovable as they can get, but when it comes to brains, he got short changed. He was good for Cleo and tried to help
her along as she became ever more blind. Kalani was Laika's sister and was
also a show dog and won a number of awards! She liked to talk a lot but and was very sweet and easy to get along
with. After Kalani passed away Laika got so depressed that he would just mope around all day, so we adopted a senior girl
Launa to keep him company. She is only part mastiff but by far the smartest dog we have owned, another real sweetie who gets
along well with everyone.
Rango is a bit of a surprise addition in our lives. Living out in the woods means one has LOTs of mice around and they were eating our cars! So we decided a mouser was needed and this cat does a wonderful job of catching em for us! Although Marc is allergic to cats (Rango is only allowed in the garage) we have grown to love her and enjoy her company. Rango loves high places like sitting on top of the chicken coup or on top of our dome home even!
MoreSteph has been a volunteer for rescuing English Mastiffs and occasionally other dog breeds and even cats that have been abused or abandoned. It is sad that such beautiful animals can be so badly mistreated by humans. Mastiffs are incredibly mellow and full of love for humans! We occasionally take one into our home and nurse them back to health, then find them a good home. Like snowflakes, no two are exactly alike, and each have an incredible story to tell.
MoreAfter seeing movies like "Food Inc." and "Fast Food Nation" we decided we should raise our own meat birds and egg layers in a humane way. So we fixed up our chicken coup, built a turkey run, and keep a flock of chickens, turkeys, and ducks. We now have a large free range area for the birds and even have it covered with chicken wire to protect em from other critters looking for a free dinner.
MoreNo, we do not grow fish for our own food. Just a hobby with a 55 gal aquarium in the house (Steph fell in love with em after we got married,) Marc has had aquariums since he was a kid) and we plan to build a coy pond outside our sun room soon.
